SOME while ago Clarence Pinkston, who won the platform diving championship event at the Olympic Games in Antwerp, just 16 years ago, made the statement that he believed the American swimming team would defeat Japan in the Olympic Games at Berlin this summer.

It will be recalled that the representatives of the Rising Sun captured that part of the Olympic Games at Los Angeles in 1932. In fact, in only one of the men's swimming events and the two diving events did America's representatives win laurel wreaths. The women, however, were more successful, and there has been little feeling of doubt regarding their coming through again this

This is not strictly a championship meeting. Teams are not officially entered by schools, and all competitors enter as indivi- duals. Nevertheless, the entries continue to increase, and the majority of the outstanding schoolboy athletes take part.
