THE biggest local sports sensation in years was provided yesterday at the Hong Kong Cricket Club when Tsui Wai-pni, the 1934 singles champion, and his brother Tsui Yan-pui, the Chinese Recreation Club's third string pair, dethroned the Rumjahn cousins, who had held sway THE LAST WORD IN GOLF BALLS for eleven consecutive seasons, in the Third Round of the Colony Lawn

I have not seen better tennis in Hong Kong and the young Chinese NEW CRC. OFFICIALS FIVE RECORDS GO pair fully deserved their triumph, although I thought they were going to make the same fatal mistake they made last year playing safe when in a commanding position. Holding leads of 4-2 and 5-3 in the final set, they were content to try and match the champions for steadi- ness and only the late realisation in the tenth game that aggres- sive overhead play was what was required saved them from defeat.

Last year the Tsui brothers led Lee Wai-tong and Pani Kong 5-1 in the final set of their Second Round encounter, but lost. 63. 46, 7-3 as the result of playing steady ten- nis instead of forcing the pace against a pair who could not afford to take risks. Yesterday history very nearly repeated itself,

The Tsui brothers will probably meet Lee Wai-tong and Luk? Ding-cheong in the Semi-Final Round, and as I was inclined to,

favour the latter pair's chances against the Rumjahns I am not TO-DAY'S TENNIS

so sure that they will reach the Final, although yesterday's triumph should give them all the confidence they need.

One very surprising feature in yesterday's match was the Lack of understanding by the Rumjahas, who have owed their past successes to their perfect combination. There were almost half a dozen glaring examples of points being lost down the centre of the court through hesitancy, and it was this totally anexpected weakness that caused the Colony's best doubles pair to fail. Lack of practice together against sufficiently good opposition is the cause.
