I have turned our backs on the past, and are making a new start in the cricket sense. Changes have been made, since county cricket was last played, which I think will in due time create new batsmen, possibly also new bowlers, and which I am more than hopeful will create new spirit.

I would put it this way. The county side of cricket has had its spring clean, and we are starting off, not only with new rules, but with a clean slate. That's fine in prospect, at any rate.

Let us hope that the most sanguine anticipations will be realised. They certainly will with a "pull together boys."

There is the change in the leg-, before-wicket rule as the first of these big steps to
