YORKSHIRE'S BAD LUCK IN TEST SERIES

SEASON'S FINAL AVERAGES

THE 1934 cricket season will be remembered more for the luss of the Ashes than the triumph of Lancashire in the County Championship, but it has undoubtedly been a most eventful one with Don Bradman, Wally Hammond, W. H. Ponsford, and Verity providing their full quota to the thrills.

Yorkshire, severely handicapped by the Test match claims on their best players Sutcliffe, Leyland, Bowes, and Verity-failed Freeman to retain their prestige, and Lancashire, a much better side than F. A. Barlow generally supposed, won the honours. As a team they lacked a Mercer really good right-hand spin bowler, and there was not enough Hopking "body" in the middle of the batting order. They were, however, H. R. Cox a keen and good flelding side, and showed that they have some young and promising players which augurs well for the future.
