||LONG TRIP IN JUNK
STARTED
Trio Clear Singapore In 24-Ft. Craft.
GERMAN'S VENTURE
Two Germans--Ludwig von Horn stein and Paul Focken-and a young Singapore Malay, N.M. Ismail Jeft Singapore recently on an adven turous voyage to Europe via Aus tralia and the Pacific in a 24-fest] Chinese Junk.
Named O.K., the junk has been built for them at Tanjong Rhu.
Herr von Hornstein told the Straite Times that he und Focken went out to Singapore to take ap positions in Bangkok and Java re- spectively by the steamer Trier.
Hornstein is a merchant, and his companion a ship's mate.
On arrival their prospects of work did not materialise, and looking round for some means of returning! to their homeland they hit upon the idea of doing so in a junk.
