A small motor-yacht named Bogey from Portishead was wrecked on the Gable"Ridge, 1off | Minehead.

The tide was low, and grounded on the ridge. When the anchor was thrown out its points pierced her hull and she began to fill.

The owner, Mr. E. Lane, of Gloucester, & woman passenger, and a crew of three were aboard.

One of the men took thei woman passenger ashore in the yacht's punt, and a signal of dis- Stress was hoisted. It was seen 27th Sept at Minehead by the coxswam of the lifeboat, Mr. R. Martin, who, with others, put off in a motor- boat and took the remainder of the party off.

All danger of a typhoon; of severe intensity, striking. the Colony passed on September 17, but throughout the day heavy squalls and strong easterly gales were experi enced. No material damage was suffered by the Colony, with the exception of one fatality-a Chinese coolie being killed when a matshed was blown down. The typhoon passed 70 miles south of Gap Rock between 6 and 7 a.m. The Government rescue tug Kau Sing, the Kowloon Dock tug Henry Keswick and the Talkoo, patrolled the harbour constantly during the gale. Mrs. P. B. Caruana, the wife of Lieutenant-Comman- der P. B. Caruana, attached to the Naval Command, Hong Kong, was the victim of a daring highway robbery per petrated in broad daylight in Bowen Road, on the after- "noon of September 14. At the time, Mrs. Caruana was walking alone, and was followed by a Chinese man, who spoke in broken English. She sat down to avoid, the man. He passed, but immediately turned back and set upon Mrs. Caruana. He threw pepper into her face and stole her handbag. The thief made good his escape. The distribution "of prizes of the Sacred Heart College took place in open air on the night of September 19. The College also celebrated its tenth anniversary. There was a large gathering of parents and friends of the pupils. The prizes were presented by Dr. Asjoe Ho, LR.C.P., who, In a short speech, encouraged the boys to work and study hard. A programme of entertainment given by the boys, assisted by friends, was much enjoyed. The function is reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

Sentence of fifteen years hard labour was passed on a Chinese by the Chief Justice, Sir Joseph Kemp, at the" September Criminal Sessions, on a charge of wounding an elderly Chinese gardener at Kowloon City early in July." On four counts of falsification of the accounts of Messri. Gande, Price & Co., Ltd., a Japanese, Hasa je Tani, formerly employed as a harbour runner, was sentenced to three years hard labour, Several deportees were given. three years gaol, while sentence of one year's hard labour was meted out a Chinese on a charge of taking a letter demanding $800 with threats.
