The import duty against all but British cotton piece goods is! to he increased by India immediately from 30% per cent. to a mini- mum of 50 per cent... ad valorem. This decision of the Government follows the recommendations of the India Tariff Board.

The Tariff Board has long been considering plans whereby it might protect, against the low-priced foreign cotton pièce goods shippers, the staggering British cotton interests which have lost large and important markets through foreign competition based on cheap labour.
