Aviator Who Bombed Warship Rewarded. $50,000 IN PRIZE MONEY Called Hero In Canton

For Sinking Craft.

Colonel Ting Kee-chu, the Canton Air Force pilot who suc cessfully bombed and sank the destroyer, Fai Ying, on Wednes- day, July 6, has been hailed as a hero by the Canton Government and paid a reward of $50,000. The whole of the country, Gov- |ernment officials declare, admire the audacity and courage of this

man.

Colonel Ting relates his story height of 3,000 feet over the ship and dropped his bombs. When he saw that they had taken effect he turned and flew away. The vessel sank in a short, space of time.

The history of the Fai Ying, reported first as the Fat Ying, is interesting. She was ranked as the best of the ships of the Northern Naval Fleet. She was purchased from Germany by the Ching Dynasty some 40 years ago. Possessing a speed of 18 knots, she was registered as an 800-ton vessel and was looked upon as "modern and fast."
