City Can Play It.
This plan could be put into effect by any city. All local civic organisations would be glad to lend assistance. Newspapers would be glad to co-operate, all officials would be glad to assist. The effort involygl would be great but it vuld be spread over so many people that the indivi- dual burden would be very small. Little printed material- would be required. The newspaper space devoted to it would be a good in- vestment on the part of the newspapers. Radio stations al- ways have unglled minutes which can be given to a cause of this kind.
Much of the success of the plan lies in making the objec- tives 'specific. Not much would be accomplished if a lot of people] simply gave interviews to newe- papers and talked over the radio on careful driving. That, as well as official regulation, shas been tried for years. For real success the objective must be specific. Reduction of accidents during certain hours at certain locations, or for certain groups of people, must be a mark to ba shot at and the score of accom- plishment, together with public commendation of the citizenry, must be a part of the plan in order that the thing may become a game and arouse great inter- est on the part of drivers and pedestrians.
