The Harbour Office Reports for the 24 hours ended D a.m. yesterday gave a fair movement of vessels with a high tonnage. Freights were up to the mark, both the in wards and throughs reaching five figures. The total tonnage enter- ed was 43,860.

There were 11 inward regis tries, of which five were British and six of four figures, while of the 11 throughs, eight were Bri- tish and five of 'four figures. Two vessels arrived in ballast.

Passengers entered during the period included 31 Europeans and 968 Asintic deck, British vessela carrying 637 out of the total in all classes.

Great Ocean Lines Join Forces.

Southampton.

Two great transatlantic shipping companies, the British White Star,

and the ·Government-subsidised

United States Lines, are joining forces to obtain the bulk of pas senger traffic between this country and America.

While these two companies re- port that already there is increas- ed traffic because of the recent fare cuts, the Cunard Line and other. companies are saying that a serious loss of revenue must be the result.
