SURVIVOR'S VIVID STORY

OF FIRE

The latest cables of the Georges Philippar fire disaster report definitely that 658 are saved, but that the remainder of the crew and passengers, estimated at nearly 200, are almost certainly dead. Information is still scarce and the number of people on board the abandoned ship is not definite- ly known. If the the number was 850, as at first re- ported, some 190 are missing. Some may have been picked, some 190 are missing. Some may have been held that they have survived.

ALL FEARED MISSING.

Aden, Yesterday.

It is feared that all those missing from the Georges Philippar are dead. It is practically cer- tain that none has been rescued by larger vessels in, the vicinity, though there is faint hope that some of the lifeboats or rafts may have reached the coast or been picked up by Arab dhows.

Motion Passed.

The Hon. Sir Henry Pollock's motion with regard to the necessity of immediately securing the Home Authorities* sanction to the second part of the Shing Mun scheme was put to the vote at to-day's meeting of the Legislative Coun- eil and carried unani- mously. The Official members of the Council abstained from voting.

RAIN ALLOWS TEAM ONLY ONE DAY'S PRACTICE

(Special from Our Own Staff Correspondent.)

Shanghai, To-day. The Hong Kong Interport Cricket team has met with misfortune, and the out- fook for the match is pessimistic. Three of the team, the skipper, Capt. E. J. R. Mitchell, A. R. Minu, and D. McLellan, 12th man, are down with influenza. Mitchell is confined to his bed, but the other two were affected only last night and it is hoped that they will recover shortly.

Colony's representatives, it has been pos- sible to obtain very little practice. It has been raining steadily, and a heavy down- pour on Tuesday night spoilt yesterday's practice, but some play was enjoyed at the nets on concrete matting.

On the social side the team have been splendidly ntertained and the L.B.C. dance was a great success. Capt. Mitchell was an absentee on account of his attack of influenza.

Shanghai cricketers are very con- fident of success in the Interport, and the local team is particularly anxious to win this encounter and thus even the series. Hong Kong at present leads by 15 matches to 14.
