CITY SAFE

Relegated to the Second Division at the close of the 1929-30 season, Everton staged one of the most remark- able comebacks in the annals of association football when they won the Second Division Championship in the 1930-31 season; were pramoled to the First Division; and then won the First Division Championship in their first year of re-instatement. The winning of both championships in successive years is without precedent,

Everton won the Championship on Saturday as the re- sult of a narrow home victory over Bolton Wanderers by a goal to ni!.

For their success Everton are indebted to Dixie Dean, their pro life goal-scorer. It VAN This marksmanship and generalship that placed Everton seven points ahead of West Bromwich Albion at the close of last season, and though not so much has been heard of him this season his pre- sence has been ever a source of danger to the opposing goalkeeper.
