Claim for Wages.

AND SECURE JUDGMENT.

At the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon, the Chief Justice (Sir) Joseph H. Kemp, K.C.), sitting in Admiralty Jurisdiction, heard ez parte claims brought by Captain John Miller, master of the Chinese owned a.s; Yuan Jeng, and the sea- men of the vessel, which is regis tered in Canton, and at present lying under arrest in Hong Kong har- bour.

The master, whose action was brought separately, claimed $5,576.37 for five months and ninej days' wages,, victualling, landing expenses, and disbursements incur red by the ship; while in their action the seamen claimed a total of $10,895.40 for wages, allowances and virtualling. Among the claimants was Mr. J. M. Kraukle, Chief Officer of the ship, who claimed $962.60 for five months and) rine daya wages.

ап

Neither the owners of the ship, nor interested parties, entered appearance when the actions were called, and his Lordship accordingly gave judgment for plaintiffs and made an order that

The ship be condemned in the amount of the claim and costs, with liberty to apply as to the amount of maintenance if any question arose. He made an order for the ap praisement of the ship for sale, but ordered that such sale should-be made only with the consent of plaintiffs in an- other action, yet to be heard, It was mentioned that a very sub- stantial claim by the Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock Company Limited had yet to be investigated against the same ship.
