"AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY."
Bettor British films are cortainly crowding in on us these days. Thanks to the enterprise of the management of the King's Theatro, Hong Kong film fans who were only this wook tickled to death by Lealia Henson in "A Warm Corner," will have the opportunity of enjoy-!| ing more wholesome British humour when "The Chance of a Night
Time" featuring Ralph Lynn, is presented, starting to-morrow.
Yesterday I saw an advance view. of this picture and have no healta- tion in saying that the claim that it is funnier than "Rookery Nook"|
is not overstated. Here the fun is and well sustained throughout, Ralph shines as a silly young fel- low who would do anything to please a pretty girl.
The picture opens with a gay
Spanish tune very well rondered, and then the first flash on the
screen is of a couple doing a. Spanish dance before an audience of diners. Ralph is, of courao, there, with his fances (Winifred Shotter).
He makes a date with
her for her birthday and then, on consulting bia diary, finds that he has a business engagement out of town, but promises to rush back.
The business done, Ralph rushes back to the station and catches the
train but leaves his attache cas behind on the platform. tricves this and misses the last out-
He re-
bound train. He phones for a cur, and while waiting, the last inbound train arrives and the dancing girl arrives to full an engagement at a house party..
Ralph sees her off in her waiting car, and resumes his wait for his car to town. The girl ands that her dancing partner had not ar- rived and the host aends a car to the station to look for him. Ralph enters the ear without question and is driven to the house and ushered into the girl's room! When she explains that her partner had not turned up and is on the verge of, tears, Ralph gallantly volunteers to partner her. After only brief teasons in the room, they take the floor and, of course, Ralph makea in fool of himself.
The funniest part comes, how- ever, with the arrival of the girl's partner, a very jealous and hot-; | blooded Spaniard. To complicate matters, Ralph's fiancee, tired of waiting for him, had attended, the house party. Naturally, their en- gagement is off, she would not hear any explanation.
Ralph discovers that the dancing girl loves him and is happy at the turn of events and forthwith elopes; with hor, in her partner's motor car! There are lots of fun in the house before the elopment, but this must be seen to be enjoyed. Don't; miss it, it is a great fun feast, with Ralph at his bost.
