To Be Towed Through Malacca Straits.
The floating dock built at Wall- send for the Wellington Harbour Board left the Tyne on its 13,600 miles tow to New Zealand on July
15.
The dock has been built by Messrs. Swan Hunter, and Wigham Richardson, Ltd., of Wallsend, who have built more floating docks than any other firm in the world."
The dock for Wellington is of the sectional box, self-docking type, with a lifting capacity of 17,000 tons, It has an overall length of 594ft. and a width of 17ft. The height of the walls above the bot- tom of the dock are 49ft, Launched in three portions on three different day's last May and June, the dock was then assembled at the Wallsend 'Shipyard, and it will be towed' in une piece to Wellington.

who successfully towed the great Singapore floating dock 8,500 miles from Wallsend to its destination. The tow they are now undertaking involves voyage of 13,500 miles the longest tow on record-indis expected to - last about aever:
months.
Messrs Smit's powerful steam Luge Zwarte Zee and Roode 'Zee will take the, Wellington Dock from Wallsend, the latter tug being re- placed in the English Channel by the Witte Zec. The dock will be in charge of Captain Hart, the Buster of the Zwarte Zee.
There
will also be a crew housed on the lock itself to attend to the towage gear and other deck appliances.

The route taken by the dock will be by Gibraltar, the 'Suez Canal, Indian Ocean, Malaces Straits, the Dutch East Indies, and Torres Strait. Getween New Guinea and In this last channel the tidal current is so strong that the dock will probably have to be anchored every six hours waiting for a turn of the tide to help it on its slow passage.
