Results of Nippon Yusen Kaisha.
In his address to the shareholders of the Nippon Yusen Keisha at the half-yearly meeting In Tokyo, the vice-present, Mr. N. Ohtani, said the net loss of 640,000 yen was, needless to say, due to the persia- tently continuing world depression of trade and industry. As far as Japan was concerned, he said she was placed in a peculiar financial and Industrial predicament as a result of the removal of the gold ban and of the stringent, retrench- ment being exercised all round He regretted that he saw yet no sign of an early recovery, and that they company's business would
tinued, if not increased, difficulties, requiring the extraordinary per severance and fortitude of all con. i cerned.

The chairmen particularly de- plored the fact that, instead of the freight conferences being protect- ed as the only safeguarding medium of keeping the rates, steady, they were being subjected to constant disturbances, which only helped still more to demoralise freight rates, and which could be well avoided, should n greater sense of fairness and co-operation prevail.
