WOMAN VICTIMISED BY CHINESE CROOKS.

Charged before Mr. W. Schofield in the Central Police Court this morning with the attempted lar reny of two bangles by "the bank note trick" from a woman, Wong Ng (28), pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to three months' hard labour.

Mr. F. C. E. Rendall appeared for plaintiff, Mr. M. A. da Silva being for the defence..

Dates in Dispute.

Mr. Rendall, opening the case, said that defendants had heen tenants of the premises since 1925. The agreement was a monthly one, the basis of cal- culation being from the 25th day of each Chinese month. It was claimed by his client that certain notice as tendered by defendants, Was insufficient, and further that defendants stayed on in the premises after the notice WAS given. In addition, they did not return the key, and plaintiff, upon examination, found that cubicles had been damaged, and was put to the expense mentioned in re- pairing them.

Plaintiff, in the witness box, alleged that he received notice of defendants' intention to move on Christmas Day last year.

This was only a few days before the regular monthly rent was due. He had to pay for the damage to the property, and did not receive the key back.

Series of Denials, Cross-examined, plaintiff de- nied that he called on defendant Detective Sergeant Meadows, in November, and enquired of who prosecuted, said that another him whether he intended to leave man was with defendant when they
