24 to 3.

The first encounter was sufficient 1 to eliminate one team from cap- 1turing premier honours and also to 1 place the Army in a strong chal- 2lenging position. The second 1 match between the Navy and the Club looked as if the Navy would 1 experience their second defeat and 1 complete elimination from the com- 3 petition. The critics were, how- Oever, confounded by a brilliant offensive put up by the "supposed Owooden spoonists," and as a conse- quence the Club found themselves 1 at the bottom of the table. The 4 position then became most interest- 1ing owing to the fact that the

On arrival, the visitors were met by their host (Mr. A. A. de Mello,

had made all the arrange-- who ments) and driven in motor cara to the Macao Club.

Tennis doubles matches opened' the programme and after some keen tusoles, the Macao Club won by 10 Bete to six.

After tin in the Hotel Riviera, a return was made to the Macao Club ground, where St. Andrew's Club XI played hockey. The hosts won by the odd goal in five. C. C.] Francle netted for the visitors.

Group photographs wore taken, and the gathering then adjourned to the Club-house, where 籍 sumptuous repast was provided.

Speaking on behalf of Bt. Andrew's Club, the Rev. W. Walton Rogers expressed thanks to the hosts, whom he said had run the violtors "off their foot" with the warm welcome. He added that the visit was made as the result of ro porta made by St. Andrew's-Group/ of Boy Scouts on their return from a wonderful camp in Macao a short time ago. He expressed the hope that St. Andrew's Club would repay their boats kindness in a like

Mr. A. Ade Mallo (Secretary of the Macao Club) suitably replied,| after which three hearty chears and "Uger" were accorded both the hosts and the vialtors. A bumber

Had the forwards used more dis- cretion in the tight scrummages and had Costello been on form at the base of the scrum the Army would have given the Club a much harder game than they experienc- 1 ed. A three-quarter line such as Douglas, Galletley, Hamilton and Barlow was indeed a formidable proposition providing they received their opportunities, and there they invariably had when Younger gained possession, but their at, tacks were met by a relentless de- fence who gave no quarter in ex- pecting none. The tackling powers of the Army backs on paper seem- ed very sure and steady, but their exhibition in actual play lacked conviction. They failed to get their men low, and very often com- pletely failed with high tackle.! Frankham, at full-back back, found, himself in the position of defend- ing his line against two or even) three three-quarters moving at topi

the speed, but he emerged from game with dying colours, his kick- ing being wall judged and his des fensive play very good under the circumstances.

Naval Weakness,

The strength in the Naval fifteen was the excellent understanding between Francis and Roberts, the half backa, and their forwards. Their force forward rushes and the subsequent loose serums in the enemy twenty-five provided danger after danger to the harassed de- fence. In Beamish and Wilkinson they have two really good for wards: but their defence, with the exception of David and Glass, is, far from impressive? A stout, de- fence was required at Sookunpoo the Army, but faulty Hand- and over-eagerpess cost them and their opportunity of champions.
