SUN-BATHERS.
"Prison Proper Place for Such People.” ↑
A sun-bather. Ernest Sprenger, nged 20, of Hearnville Road, Bal ham, appeared on remand at Hen- don charged with an offence at the Welsh Harp. He appeared in court wearing plus fours with an open-neck tennis shirt.
Miss Diana Webb, aged 17, of Elizabeth Terrace, High Street, Eltham, S.E., said that sho and some friends went camping an Sunday in Wolah Harp Fields. When she returned from a walk on September 21 there were sev eral strangers, including Sprenger. who was wearing towel round his waist and a swimming belt, at the camp fire. The sun-bath- ers were arguing about sun-bath. ing with the members of her camp. They asked her what she thought about it and she replied that she did not think it was de- cent.
She described what followed, and added that she had seen some of the sun-bathers running about without clothing.
Solar Rays.
Sprenger, giving evidence, sald that he belonged to ↓ society which belleved in the benefits of Bun rays.
"Our principles are that the whole of the body should be ex- posed to the sun and air," he Enid,
Mr. Grobel, defending, suggest- ed that the genesis of the case was in the recent "battle royal" that had been going on over sun- bathing at the Welsh Harp.
"This is a strange society," he added, "which has peculiar ideas. They see no evil In the exposure of the human form, and therefore I submit that there was no inten- tlon to insult."
Sprenger was fined £10 and £1 Sp coata, and the Chairman (Mr. F. E. Robinson) said: "I sincere- ly hope that you and your friends will take this as a warning: otherwise you will all. soon find Feurselves in prison, the proper place for people holding such views as you do, in our opinion.”

A. WEEK'S PAPERS IN ONE.
The official announcement of the draft of "a Bl designed to impose an Entertainment Tax in the Colony as from January 1 next has caused considerable comment. The provisions of the Bill, together with editorial comment, appear in the current issue of the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
Yet another piracy occurred during the week; when the Norwegian steamer Hirundo was attacked and captured when nineteen hours out of Swatow on her way to Bangkok. The pirates took the ship to Mirs Bay, after ransacking the officers' and passengers' cabins. Later the ship made her way to Hong Kong. Full details appear in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
Of particular interest was the receipt of news that Mr. Instone Brewer, who was sentenced to a jail term a year ago on perjury charges, had been exonerated by a Special Parliament of the Middle Bench In London. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL, in reproducing the news, recalls salient features of the trial in Hong Kong.
Remarkable evidence as to alloged Chinese, customs was forthcoming in a case at the Criminal Assizes in which a young village girl stood charged with the murder of her father-in-law. One of the dead men's sons, when asked in evidence if he were satisfied that his father should have been killed, expressed his agreement with the murder, which- he considered justified according to custom, The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL reports the case in detail.
Exclusive news of what is said to be an impending "boom" in certain local shares is also given in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL,

A new programme for the betterment of conditions in China, Issued by Chiang Kai-shek after a conference with Chang Hsueh-liang, the Mukden War Lord, has elicited much favourable comment in the foreign Press, who express. the sincere hope that the ideals as set out may be attained.
