As a result of an attack, said to be by terrorists, Mr. Lenox Simpson, erstwhile Commissioner of Customs under the short-lived Shans regiment, in Tientsia, succumbed: Mr. Simpson, well-known under his nom-de-plume of Putnam Weale, was a well-known figure in North China.
