A corresponding sympathy of movement. between the human mouth, tongue and hands is said to be the paramount reason why we have a definite alphabet, so named because it is derived from the Greek names of the first two on demand letters-alpha and beta.

Shape Sounds. Sir Richard believes that evary letter of the English alphabet, a series of conventional symbols each indicating a single sound or of sounds, except combination possibly H and Q, is closely re- lated to the shape of the mouth.
