CARE OF BABY'S HAIR.
Some Sound Advice to Mothers
"Has he any hair?" is one of the first quests we ask about a baby. Not that it really mat ters, for a bald baby can be just as fascinating as the baby with a dawny mop! The bald babies generally grow ·UP with bair, rather fine, hair; and as for the babies whose hair is dark and plentiful at birth, they may "turn fair" later on, but by the time they are 14 or 15 their hair will
be dark again. It is a fairly well- established fact that the colour of a baby's hair at birth deter mines its colour in adult life. Look around among your quaintances and see if that isn't

And now, how are we to take care of this lovely soft, baby hair? Probably we have a wee brush and comb marked "Baby," and, however small the quantity of hair we have to deal with, we Jove to use them: We must be very careful not to let the comb scratch our baby's scalp; in fact,

"Milk crust," old-fashioned mothers call it. It comes towards the front of the head and on to the forehead. It has a brownish appearance, and very often mothers try to wash it off as if it were dirt; but this is a mistake. It should be grenzed every even- ing with a little olive oil (warm- ed first by standing the bottle in hot water). The next day it can be gently rubbed with a piece of clean soft rag, and gradually. It will disappear.
Bables often develop scurly heads because their hair is wash- ed with hard water. It is safest to-boil-the-water-for-quite-five. minutes to help soften it; and a very small pinch of borax can then be added. Don't use soap on a young baby's hair more often than twice a week; and, after the sixth month, only wash the hair once a week. After a year old. once a fortnight is often enough. Be sure to dry it very thoroughly with a warm, soft towel; careless drying is responsible for a lot of scurf and falling hair.
