The demand of buyers of fine cars for bright colours and a wide combination is variety of colour greater this year than it has ever

been before, according to officials of the Lincoln Motor Company. This is particularly true, they say, in the open and convertible types.

Exhibits in the recent automobile shows indicated that bright colours! would be popular this year, but after all, these cars, to a considerable

manufacturers thought the public would want. In the final analysis the purchasere determine colour trends, especially In the cars of the Lincoln class in which individuality is accentuated.

Brown, green and blue in a variety of shades will be the most popular colours this year, according to Lincoln officials, who base their judgment largely on orders so far received and on reports from deal-

Many automotive experts who have made a careful analysis of the sleere valve engine used in the Willys-Knight ears attribute its successful high compression per-crs. formance to its distinct design, stating that it is unusually well adapted to high efficiency work.

It is cited as proof of the claim that the Knight sleeve valve engine is naturally best suited for high compression work, that it does not require a special grade of gasoline to attain maximum efficiency.

Tests conducted over a period of years have been shown a distinct margin in favour of the sleeve valve engine for high efficiency. It is pointed out that the characteristic design of the Knight sleeve galve combustion chamber, with the spark plugs located in the exact centre of the compressed fuel charge, pro- vides unsurpassed high compression performance.

The shape of the combustion chamber in the Knight engine is a true cylinder surmounted with a dome-shaped head. This is said by engineers to be the Ident type for obtaining the greatest degree of efficiency from an engine of the high compression type.

The Lincoln offers twenty-three colours which have been tested and adopted as standard. A purchaser, may have his car finished in any combination of these colours, though, the company recommends certain combinations for their har mony, taste and durability.

Any other colours may be had, however, at additional cost. The demand for special colours is un- usually heavy among those who have more than one car and who buy open cars for sport occasions.

There is an increasing tendency on the part of the public to select fenders with the same colour scheme as that of the body of the car.

The building of a highway from the Eritrean port of Asaab into the interior of Abyssinia will soon be undertaken by Italy. This is strikingly illustrated in a transportation survey made recently by Brice Edwards of the Bureau of Agricultural Economies of the United States Department of Agriculture. It discusses the move. ment of the 1928 crop of fruits and vegetables in southern Indiana and Illinois and emphasises the large recent increase in the use of trucks for the transport of farm products, "Motor truck transportation in southern Indiana and Illinois has developed chiefly during the Isst. | four years,” the survey states. · "A" characteristic of the use in this section is the supplying of rural and small city trade by wholesale and retail peddling with the truckinan acting as middleman as well as carrier
