An important factor in the main- tenance of this great national in- dustry is the necessity for the con- i tinuance of those facilities for finance which in the past have helped so materially, and which cannot be dispensed with in these days of extended credit, when in so many cases companies placing. orders look to the shipbuilder to assist in financing the work of con- struction.
The work in hand includes some notable vessels, but perhaps special mention might be made of. the White Star liner Britannic, of 27,000 gross tong. This liner, which is the largest British motor passenger ship, is approaching completion at Belfast, and may well be as epoch-márking instrument of commerce as the first vessel bullt by Harland and Wolff for the White Star Line, riz, the Oceanfe in 1870, which was a pioneer in the development of North Atlantic: travel.
The owners are so conident of the merits of this vessel that a sister-ship to the Britannic has been laid down at Belfast. There two vessela will represent the Inteat development in marine motor propulsion.

In addition to the White Star reasels under construction, we have building large motor liners for the Union-Castle Company's South African mail service, as well As vessels for the Compagule Generale Transatlantique, the Silver Line, Andrew Weir and Co., the Nourse Line, Hain Lire, and the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Com pany..
