Spring meeting of the Shang-

London, Yesterday.. Worrestershire visited the Oval and met with a heavy defent at the hands of Surrey. On winning the toss the visitors elected to bat against a supposed weak attack. A surprise, however, awaited them and they were dismissed for the paltry score of 40. M. J. C. Allom, the Surrey fast bowler, claimed wickets for 11 runs and Stroud 4 for 17.

The state of the wicket did not affect Surrey in the least, and they amassed the huge total of 447 for the loss of eight wickets before the closure was applied. To this total Hobbs contributed 66, Ducat 125, Sandham 65, and Shepherd 82.

In their attempt to score 407 runs to avoid the innings" defont, Worcester failed bally against the
