Will The English Cup Go South?.

GREAT FINAL IN PROSPECT.

[By B. Net.]

So once again the great Day of the football year has come round. And what a Cup Final this time! It would not be surprising were a rend crowd to gather at Wembley Stadium this afternoon, when the Arsenal and Huddersfield Town take the field to battle for pos- session of the greatly-prized trophy.

The meeting has many drama- tic features. First and foremost, It will be battle of North v South, with the South (und Lon- don), represented by the Arsenal, atraining every nerve to bring the Cup away from the North and Midlands, for only the third time in thirty years. Only twice since 1900 has the trophy gone South, and in each case Totten- ham Hotspur, were the heroes who won it. In 1901 the famous Spurs heat Sheffield United by 3 goals to in replay at Bolton, after the first game at Palace was drawn 2-2. Again in 1921 the London side bent Wol- verhampton Wanderers by 1-0 in the Final at Stamford Bridge.

But apart from this first as- pect of the struggle," the teams themselves both have a glamour anet reputation which, in their different ways, make an irresis- tible appeal to the public.

The bold polley of the Arsenal in paying big transfer fees for ready-made stars such as James, of Preston. Halliday, of Sunder land, and Jack, late of Bolton,, to name only a few, caused a stir in football circles such as has not been known for many a long

day, which was intensified when It was found that the collection of brilliant individualists made only a meagre showing as a team. with the result that the Club had ', to fall back upon some of their

fesser known men, with surpris Ingly successful resulta.

Thus young Bastin, who is still in his teens, has found a place

in the League aide, and bids fair to become the idol of the High- bury crowd, whilst Lambert, necured from Doncaster Rovers a few seasons back, after being in and out of the premier side sev eral times, seems to have made the centre-forward position his own, the high-priced atars being, temporarily at least, eclipsed.

The Arsenal have on their side, however, two of the finest tac ticlans in the game in Jack and James, and it is these men, above
