H. D. and S. A. Rumjahn Enter Final.
"C.A.L.

[ByBase Line.”]
In the semi-final of the Open Doubles Championship played at the HK.C.C. yesterday, the holders, H. D. and S. A. Ramjahn de. feated a younger pair in C. A. L. Rumjahn and J. A. E. Cassumbhoy in a five-wet match. The winners lost the first two sets, but their experience stood them in good stead in the remaining three sets, which they won quite comfortably. The tennis at times reached a very high standard and was seldom devoid of thrills.
The holders meet the "crack" Chinese pair. Kong Toe-cheung and Ho Ka-fau, in the Final, which will be played on Tuesday. They have won the title for the last five years, and the question na to whether they will register their seventh success is now the main topic in tennis circles.
At this period it looked as if the holders were going to be beaten in straight sets after five years' supremacy. The winners played the volley game through- out, there being few instances of base-line play, Whenever they

The younger pair were good value for their two set lead, as they had played waterprising tennis. The Rumjans fully deserved their success, though I must con- fess that at the end of the second set thought that they had left it too late. In the last three sets the winners had found their proper range. They were hitting the ball very firmly and finding the gaps in the volleyer's court with meticulous accuracy. It may sound astonishing, but it is never- theless true. that they won atring of fourteen games in sue- ression. This sequence was only broken by dazzling play On Cassumbhoy's part. At the same time the losers must be con- gratulated on their spiritell flight for the honour of defeating the holders.
The result was H. D. and 3. A. Rumjahn (the holders) defeated C. A. L. Humjaho and J. A. E. Cassumbhoy 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2

In the final of the Handicap Doubles, yesterday, J. D. Huni- hreys and R. H. Wilds accom- plished an excellent performance in defeating D. S. and S. E. Green 6-4, 6-4, 8-10, 6-2. The combina- tion of the winners was steadier and there was that mutual under- standing that la so essential in the doubles game. They fully de- served their success, both players. adopting the steady game with a slight variation, which sufficed in deceiving the opposition. The los- ers made a gallant effort in taking the third set at 10-8 but could not last the fourth set and went down fighting.
H. Owen Hughes defeated Dean Swann in the semi-final of the Handicap Singles "A" by 6-0, 6-1. The match was full of interest, and Dean Swann in the first game. ful up a better fight than the score of 6-0 might suggest. Owen Hughes proved too fast for him and his long reach was used to great advantage.
