GERMANY PUZZLED, By Fate of Her War- Prisoners.
Slowly indeed does the world war obliterate some of its traces. It is almost incredible, yet true, that there are still about 100,000 men of whom the last that. was heard was that they were prisoners of war, bút who have: sever reappeared among their people."
For years it was thought that, somewhere in the frozen wastel of Siberia there must be some "lost" prisoners camp, and wild specula- tions were made as to the possible whereabouts of the 1851 Gerntan prisoners in France who have apparently utterly disappeared.
But time proved the futility of) such speculations. The probability is that most of these men died dur ing some of the epidemies that awept the world during the last stages of the war, and that failure to record their deaths was due to some fault in registration fairly natural at a time when, as during the successive waves of so-called Spanish Influenza, most of the ad- ministrative staff af camps were down with the disease.
Avery few, some 60 it is thought, of the former German prisoners of war in France, joined the Forelgu Legion. Many more, but how many 18, not known of the 61,213 "lost" prisoners in Russia, are believed to have settled in some part of Soviet 18sla, hazing probably no family them Immediately back, nan Hobdellik Bone bf. years, bays and these litters comrades, who
