Track.
On a dirt track of only a mille and a quarter circumference at Auckland in New Zealand, a Bri- tish Austin Saver recently put up an amazing record by averaging a speed of 60 m.p.b. for six hours. The car, a supercharged model of the same design as raced by the Austin Motor Co. in the 1929 Dublin Grand Prix and the Ulster T.T., stood up perfectly to the gruelling conditions.
Phil Seabrook and R. Grierson piloted the little car to this remark- able victory.
In spite of the fact that the Austin Seven has secured over ů thousand victories on road And track since it was introduced to the pubile some soren or eight years ago, this latest achievement must be conceded to be at least among the most brilliant of Austin per- formances. To maintain such a speed on a tiny unbanked track will Beem Incredible, to those with any experience of dirt track driving. Phil Seabrook is very well known in motoring circles in New Zealand. and this is not the first occasion upon which he has distinguished himself.

The Coupe des Alpes ia said to be the hardest road raco.in Europe. It goes through parts of Switzerland, Ger- many, Austria and Italy and over some
of the highest and roughest mountain passes, including the Passo del Stelvio, one of the highest in the world. Two Ford cars won big honours in it last
year.
The first day was from Munich to Villach in Austria and the road passed over the famous Katchberg Pass, 2,100 metres bigh with 30 per cent. grades The second day they went on to Merano, in Italy. The roads in this part were bad, having loose stones and potholes several inches deep, In the

On the second day, the run was a circular one from Merano to Merano via Belzano over some of the worst country in Europe. The Swiss team did well, going over the mountain passes with an approximate average of 62 Ellometres per hour, one of the beat records of the day. The next point was whether the iden tification marka... granted' to · Johore dealers were equivalent to a licence, and, therefore, equivalent to registra. tion in the Colony. His Lordship dié not think that was so.
