American Ships on Yangtsze

THE

CHINA MAIL.

Peking, Yesterday. Another miniature battle be- tween Chinese and Americans oc- curred on the Upper Yangtze, when four hundred soldiers, bear ing red banners with a white sun on them, heavily fired on the Yang taze Rapids steamer Ifeng.

The American guards returned the fire, and it is estimated that seven hundred shats were fired in all.

One U.S. enlisted man WAS wounded. The Chinese soldiers sustained a number of casualties.— Reuter.

[On March 14 Chinese soldiers on the Upper Yangtsze fired on the American vessels Chiping and Iling. The guards fired back effectively. Among the wounded was Lieuten- jant C. M. Winslow, U. S. N.]
