The vessel is equipped with three propellers. The drive is effected by two reciprocating engines and one tur- bine, the combined output of which is about 12,000 hp.-sufficient to provide the vessel with a speed of 16%1⁄2 knots. All the prescribed safety devices have been installed on board.
Passengers Well-Cured-For The excellence of the passenger ac- [commodation is on a par with that of the vessel's technical equipment. The dining room extends through two decks and can seat 350 persons. The smoking room and the ladies' parlour have each been provided with a com- fortable open fireplace. The reading and writing room contains, a well-stock- ed library, whilst the spacious winter garden-surmounted by a large glass dome-forms, the centre of social life on board. There are also a gymnasium and a swimming pool.
The needs of the little ones have not heen forgotten either. A special chit- dren's room has been reserved for their indoor games and there is also an open- air playground with aand box

As reported in the China Mail yesterday Mr. Forbes, manager of the Bank Line, reported to the Police on behalf of Captain Davies, of the s.s. City of Birming- ham, that whilst the vessel was anchoring in Junk Bay to wait for daylight before entering port, her anchor fouled
some obstacle at the bottom and she lost the an- chor and several fathoms of chain. Water Police launch No. 4 was sent out to Junk Bay to try to locate the anchor, and she report- ed at 6 p.m., that she had been successful and
was proceeding with the work of raising it.
