The council meeting of the Hong Park on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. Kong Football Association was sharp. 'held yesterday; Mr. A. R. Hall
presiding.
Among the various matters brought up for discussion was the protest lodged by St. Joseph's College against the fine imposed on the College's second team for fail ing to turn out against the R.A. reserves.
The letter protesting against the decision of the Council! pointed out that the College had sent a letter to the Association, a week before the match was to be played, asking for permission to postpone the match. The. Secretary of the Association replied that no postponement could be granted. The College did not field a team on the date when the match was to be played, because they thought that' In failing to turn out, they would have only to forfeit the point, but Instead of that they were fined.
The Club de Recreio also applied for permission to with- draw their second team from the League. This was granted.
Shield Competition Entries for the Shield Compati- tion were received from all the senior teams except K.0.8.B. and the Club de Recreio.
The first round of both the Senior and Junior Competitions will be played off on January 25 and the second round on February 15. The result of the draw is as follows:

In the past both political parties have made a political football of this Oriental question: when in op position they have accused the gov- ernment in power. of trifling with this desperate menace to Canadian civilization but as soon as they came into office, and were faced with the practical difficulties of dealing with it, they have done little or nothing. The leading pastors of German Lutheran and Mennonite munities in the Ukraine have been arrested on the charge of artificial-
encouraging the emigration movement, though in point of fact they warned the peasants against unorganized emigration.
President von Hindenburg has devoted £10,000 from the funds at his disposal to peasants and has appealed to all the cause of these
Germans to contribute to the fund. He has stated. that it is an obliga- tion of honour for all German Governmental organs to do all that can be done for these peasants.
It is proposed to keep the pea- sants in Germany during the winter and to help them to Canada and Brazil in the spring. The German authorities are negotiating with Canadian representatives in London at the moment.
Another detachment of 600 has just arrived in Hamburg from Len- ingrad. Their ultimate goal is Brazil.

Mr. Jones also stated that there were 2,000 young Japanese in the province who wanted to get mar red and were virtually prevented from doing so by operation of the gentleman's agreement. These peo- ple, he said, were land hungry and even if they did take lower wages and sell vegetables at lower prices Canadian competitors, other chasses of immigrants such as peasants from eastern Europe did exactly the same thing. So the pro- vincial Conservative administration le evidently not disposed to take any drastic measures and the Fed- eral Government at Ottawa will be equally lukewarm to the agitation, as it has recently accredited for the first time a Minister to Tokyo and welcomed a Japanese Minister at Ottawa and it is making special efforts to stimulate trade with Japan.
