SOMERSETS L.I. LOSE TO ROYAL NAVY

ONE MATCH POSTPONED

THE CHINA MAIL,

The Royal Navy water polo team de- feated the representatives of the Somer. set Light Infantry yesterday at the V.R.C. Both teams played a fast and good game, and in the first half the soldiers did all the attacking. They were successfully repulsed, and in the. latter half of the first noioty, the Navy rallied and one goal was scored. Another point was added in the second half, and although the Infantry. en did their best to forge ahead, they were kept in check by the Navy backs. The final whistle was blown with the score standing at two to nil in favour of the Navy.

The match between the V.R.C. "B"

and the K.O.S.B. "A" was postponed by mutual consent. This game is down for decision on Wednesday.

Much valuable and interesting data has just been obtained at the East Malling (Kent) Research Station in regard to the root system of apple trees.

After weeks of skilful excavation the root systems of six' apple trees wire completely bared for the par- pases of scientific investigation.
