TO BE BROKEN UP
The famous training ship "Mars" has been sold to Messrs. Thos. W. Ward, Ltd., Sheffield, and has been towed to Inverkeithing to be broken up. Originally she was an 81-gun line-of-battle ship, was launched in 1840, and served in the Baltic during the Russian War. Owing to the introduction of heavy ordnance, the "Mars" was transformed into a 61- gun ship, and after a short life in the Navy, was stationed in the Tay as a training ship for boys in 1889. During the last sixty years the vessel has been a picturesque landmark on the river.
Mesars. Wards have also purchased the Canadian cruiser "Patriot from the Dominion Government, and suc- cessfully brought the vessel from the Canadian. Dockyard, "Halifax," to the firm's shipbreaking works at Britan Ferry, where she is to be broken up. The vessel is 271ft, long by 27ft. Sin..

It is not sufficient to merely say that pulverised coal can be burned in any given type of boiler or vessel. It is necessary that this be done, with

This calls for an increase in boiler efficiency and a reduction 127 operating personnel, without taking into consideration a possible reduction in the costs of fuel made available through the medium of pulverisation.
