OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
CHINA NEWS, LOCAL NEWS
and all the NEWS.
The Weekly paper that saves you the trouble of writing Home.
Glad tidings are in store for Hong Kong-ites at Home who feel a certain amount of anxiety-in ratio to the proximity of their return to the Colony in regard to the water problem. The corner has been turned, an emergency has become a more or less normal shortage, and the minimum adequate supply is available for everybody. It is therefore incumbent on residents who have folks or friends at Home and chuins on leave to let them know.
There is one logical way, in fact, of telling them all the news about Hong Kong without incurring any labour. All you have to do is to send the "Overland China Mail," the only weekly news budget published in Hong Kong with pictures.
Readers get the "local" news and also the "China news. They will be told this week about members of the garrison appearing in Courts-Martial, about the "busting" of an opiuro ring (always a romantic topic in the Old Country), and the recovery of much " "the proceeds of a burglary at one of the best known department stores in the Far East.

Everything pertaining to the quarrel between China and Russia, which has been arousing attention not only in Britain but also in Japan, the U.S.A., France, and Germany, is included, together with special articles and notes which help the layman to comprehend what is going on in Manchuria.
In the whirl of a trying Hong Kong summer rendered all the more unbearable by the acute shortage of water, letters to retulives and friends in other parts of the world frequently fail to be written even by the most ardeat correspondents. It is a kindly thought, therefore, to ensure that those away from the Colony, or folks at Home, should have an unfailing supply of Hong Kong the and China news every week by means of a subcription to "Overland Chinu Mail"-
Without any trouble of packing and worrying about the Post Office out your part, and at a one-and-only cost of H.K.$8.75 for three months, the "Overland China Mail will be sent Home for you every week, catching the mail regularly. It contains fust the newn, features and pictures from the daily "Ching Mail that makes a studied appeal to people with any

Peking Precautions
Peking Yesterday, The local Chinese authorities took elaborate precautions to prevent Com- munist troubles to-day.
Squads of men armed with execution swords paraded in motor lorries, while patrols of troops were stationed all over the city, in addition to all exits from the Legation Quarter, in order to prevent possible demonstrators march ing in.
So far, the day has passed very quietly. Beuter.

Comparative Quiet
The comparative quiet is attributable to the scotching by the police of the International Settlement and
the French Concession of Communist plans for strikes and demonstrations. The police, especially the French, in the last few days have carried out a num- ber of raids, seizing ammunition în huge quantities, and leaflets inciting trouble. Also, they rounded up several hundred suspects, and arrested a num- ber of notorious trouble-cakers, be- sides breaking up the organisation which was planning Communist denion- strations for to-day, with the object of creating an international incident.
The police remain the qui vive, and French armoured
cars are pa- trolling the French Concession, while the entire police force and police re- serves are standing by in the Inter- national Settlement-Reuter.
