DOCKS THEFTS

PRISONER. ESCAPES FROM CHARGE ROOM

EXCITING CHASE

At the Kowloon Magistracy this morning before Mr. T. S. Whyte-Smith, Itwo charges were brought against Ip Wah (22) a coppersmith Hying at 11 Kowloon City-road-first, that he stole from the Kowloon Docke, 28 lb. of ¡brazing solder valued at $i ath.; and, second, that he broke away from Ching Shing, a watchman at the Dock whilst being handed over to the Police in the charge room of the Hunghom Police Station.

Leap Over a Desk Giving the facts of the arrest Sergt. H. Marriot said he arrested defendant in the dock compound and, together with the watchman, took him to the Hanghom Police Station, where he explained the ease to Inspector Stira- son and P. C. Ferrell in the charge room. While doing this the accused sprang over the clerk's desk; went out cf the window and escaped by running towards the Docks, climbing up an em bankment and rushing along a terrace of the Docks. The Police gave chase. On being trapped, he jumped down a retaining wall, about 30 feet high, and slightly on the slant, bruising himself badly. He was unable to move, and thus was easily caught by the Police.

On the second charge his Worship said that accused was not in legal cus tody, and therefore dismissed the charge. Inspector Stimson said that he would have been in custody but he

The following is the text of the oficial communique the gist of which was published in the "China Mail' yesterday :-----

With reference to the representa- tions which have been made to the Government with regard to introduction of a rider main supply it may be painted out that the pre- Bent storage is only 1,050 million gallons as against a storage of 1,800 millions at the beginning of August last year. When the rider main supply was discontinued in October. 1928, the storage was 1,100 million gallons. This had decreased to 141 million gallons on July 11, 1929.

Should the rainfall, however, continue, it may be possible to re- move the present restrictions at an early date and introduce a rider main supply.

After inspection, it has been
