The Moving, Coil

The moving coil speaker, as we have said, is pre-eminent, but suffers from the grave disadvant age that it is necessary to have a strong magnetic field. There are three ways in common practice of exciting this field. The most com- mon method employs. a 6-12 vel: LT battery, and, as the field takes any. thing up to 1 amp, the battery must be large. The second method which we favour utilises the field as a choke coil in the filter system of a D.C.L.T. rectifier. The third method employs a transformer and valve rectifier, so that the electric mains can also be used as a source of field supply. It is, of course, im portant to design a receiving set which will give good results, and the nearest approach to perfection is shown by an anode hend detector preceded by a stage of H.F., then a stage of dual impedance coupling, and finally two power valves in push-pull. The current of the detector valve should not be allow

However the ministry spokesman at Nanking this afternoon stated that the ministry will carry out all radio contrasts the construction commission has inaugurated and furthermore will not allow any dis- ruption of radio development in

China.

In certain circles these protesta tions on the part of the ministry are accepted with certain reserve, and therefore it is considered that only time will tell how the new overlords of radio will conduct these affairs.

It was made clear that the Manila interests are not con- cerned over who operates the radio in China, the ministry of communi- cations or the reconstruction com- missions, but that any controversy between those entities resulting in an interruption crippling of the radio service would be considered serious.

Start out by filling in the words of which you feel reasonably sure. These will give you a clue to other words crossing them, and they in turn to still others. A letter belongs in each white space, words starting at the numbered squares and running either horizontally or vertically or both.

(The solution of the above cross-word puzzle will appear in to-morrow's issue along with a new cross-word puzzle.
