A SOLICITOR'S INSTRUCTION ABOUT CLIENT
A BANDAGED HEAD
Mr. E. S. C. Brooks appeared before Mr. E. W. Hamilton, at the Central Magistracy, this morning, to defend a Chinese charged with the theft of some fish from a junk at Shaukiwan. He asked for a re- mand, stating that his instruction was that the accused was insane.
Noticing that the accused's head was bandaged, his Worship remark- ed: "I see he was caught by the junk people,"
Detective Sergeant Goodwin re- plied that that was so, but explained: that the accused received the injury to his head by hitting the bottom of the junk when he dived under it in an attempt to escape capture.
His Worship inquired of Mr. Brooks if, apart from his sugges- tion that the accused was insane, he was prepared to admit the charge?
Mr. Brooks replied that he had not been instructed to take that
course:
The Magistrate then remrld to Sergt. Goodwin: "If Dr. Cannen finde that this man is not all there, you will not press the charge?"
Sergt. Goodwin agreed, adding that, after all, it was not a big thing.
