FIVE CLUBS IN SENIOR LEAGUE

PROSPECTS PROMISING

With the opening of the senior league season of the Hong Kong Baseball Association not very many days away, the various teams of league are busily engaged in prae- tice to present their strongest line- ups in the race for the pennant this year. Attempts are being made to obtain a part of the Happy Valley ground, on which games of the past years have been played, from the Hong Kong Football Club, as the field allotted by the Government for baseball is too small. Unless the Recreation Grounds Committee and the local authorities come to the rescue, there may be no grounds available. For the accommodation of "fans" and for the sake of the sport, it is the hope of many that the Hong Kong Football Club will lend its ground as in previous

years.

new

Last Year's Champions There will be five strong teams competing this year, the Filipinos, 48 South China Athletic Association, Hong Kong Baseball Club, Japanese Baseball Club and Kioras. OF these, the Filipinos, last year's champions, are tipped to be just as formidable as they were a year ago | and are working tooth and nail to: Gretain their crown. It is reported 6 that they will have several

players of repute in their list.

South China, last year's runners- 1 up, have lost some of their consist- 4ent players but have a wealth of abundant junior material and fight, instilled into the youngsters by the few remaining old members of the team, This team has had considerably more practice than the other clubs and if practice meansi anything, South China should be among the leaders if not on top.
