Unfortunately for King Boris (above) of Bulgaria, who wants to wed the Italian Princess Giovanna (above), his country's constitu- tion stipulates that the heir to the throne mast he a member of the Bulgarian Church. This ruling furnishes the barrier here, inasmuch as the Pope refuses the Princess a dispensation to marry a non- Catholic unless offspring of the union will be reared in the Roman Catholic faith. These circumstances have given rise to rumours of an alliance between the King and the Grand Duchess Kira Vladimiro- vitch, 10-year-old daughter of Grand Duke Cyril.

The Joint Committee of Shangbai Women's Organisations, gathered for an all-day session at the American Women's Club to review the past year's achievements and to gain constructive ideas for the coming year's welfare work in Shanghai. Eight papers were read covering various local activities of civic and philanthropic interest. (Photo by Ah Fong).
