The South Africans While a purely doreatie season might have been desired for a trial of the new regulations gov. erning the County Championship, there will be a warm welcome for the South Africans coming here this summer under the leadership of H. G. Déane. Their first match will be on May 1 at Worcester, and in all they will play 37 matches, including Test Matches at Birmingham, Lord's, Leeds, Manchester, and the Oval. Their team will include
in 1924-H. G. the men here Deane, H. W. Taylor, and R. H. Catterall, the brilliant young batsman who played three-figure innings against England at Birm- ingham and Lord's. These three will be supported by five others who played in the Test Matches 18 montha ago against Captain Stanyforth's team Vincent, low left-handed bowler, who met with pronounced success against the M.C.C., Cameron, the leading wicket-keeper, D. Mokel, an ult rounder, Ochse, and Siedle. Fielding is stated to be one of the strong points of the team, which also contains, apparently, plenty of batting and bowling, but it must be matter for regret that neither Bissett nor Nupen-bowl- to become more and more press- ers of proved ability-has been ing--of additions to the bowling able to make the trip.

Local news has been well to the fore during the past. week, discussions centreing round an official report on the subject of motor taxation, the condemnation. of the rescue: tug "Kau Sing," and the water supply restrictions, whilst in legal and military circles great interest has been taken in the suit brought by the Bank against the Government as a sequel to the Carvalho Yes case, and the court-martial of a corporal in the K.U.S.B. has been attended by very searching cross- examination of witnesses. These are all items that you cannot -let the compress into the narrow compass of a letter -- "Overland China Mail" be your news carrier Honeland, illustrated as is by coloured photographs of local
persons and local scenes.
China is faced with yet another Civil War, the belligerents: this time being Kwangtung and Kwangsi. The developments in the war arena may well react unfavourably on the trade between Canton and Hong Kong. In the "Overland China Mail" the whole situation is explained by experts.
Further afield the Duke of Gloucester has literally taken Japan by storm on his Garter Mission. Full cablegrams, are reproduced in the "Overland China Mail" describing the main ceremony and the chief incidents in the Royal visit. These will reach the people at Home long before they can read them by
