There was a very small attenti- ance which was presided over by Mr. D. H. Elake who, in the course of his speech, said:---

During the past year the S.P.C.A. continued their work in the same manner as heretofore.

It was thought advisable to take severe measures against cer- tain shops and stalls where per- sistent cruelty to birds and Conse- beasts was discovered. quently during the period under review there have been a larger number of prosecutions than usual. The publicity given in the newspapers to the Police Court proceedings has undoubtedly had a beneficial effect.

Finance

The Society went through an anxious period with regard to finance. Unfortunately, the date for the drive for subscriptions was not well chosen and, in addi- tion to this, owing to a series of misunderstandings some sub- seription cards were not distri- buted or collected as promptly as could have been desired. In con- sequence there was a considerable failing off in the subscriptions and. the Committee was faced with a. Our Patron, shortage of funds.

His Excellency. the Governor, very kindly recommended the Society as the recipient of the proceeds of a benefit performance given by the Harmston Circus. The Society received $868 from this source and we wish to ex- press

sincere thanks to Mr. Harmston for his generosity.

The Committee organised a highly successful fancy dress din- ner dance at the Peninsula Hotel.

For Fretful Babies Wise Mothers Use Baby's Own Tablets Because They Are

Free From Opiates.

Fretfulness in young children is usually due to stomach trouble. The use of soothing syrups fails to rorrect the cause of the trouble, la harmful, and is also unnecessary because Baby's Own Tables, guaranteed absolutely pure and safe, will sweeten the atomach, restore normal intestinal regularity, allay feverishness, and quickly bring comfort which allows the child to fall into a natural, calm and health-restoring sleep

"My little girl, four months old, cried all day long," says Mrs. Oscar Campbell, of No. 141, Cheat- mut-street, Central Falls, R. 1, "and was restless at night. She was troubled with indigestion and sour stomach and nothing seemed to help her. Finally a friend re- commended Baby's Own Tablets and the very first I gave her made her rest easy. She seldom cries now and is better in every way."

Baby's Own Tablets are sold by chemists everywhere, or post free, 60 cents per vial, from the Dr. Williams Medicine Co., 60, Kiang- se Road, Shanghai.
