FINAL GAME
CHINA ATHLETIC & SOMERSETS
MEET TO-MORROW
CRITICS OF ASSOCIATION
[By "Rover"] There is one League match to- The morrow at Caroline Hill. League championship this season has been grimly fought out, leaving two Clubs, with the same number of points. The rules of fecal Association necessitate a reply. The Somersets, who took over the Queen's fixtures, will have a big chance to win the League "off their own bat" as it
were.
As this is the only match it will naturally draw a great crowd, the issue being so interesting and also so uncertain,
The outcome of the match which will decide the champion- ship, as has already been stated, is very open. If the Somersets can produce the same form at Caroline Hill as they did when they just beat South China, at the time when the latter Club held a good sporting chance for the League, the Somersets will win. At the same time the Athletic are hard fighters and should their effective left wing be allowed to function, they may get the points. I saw the Somersets for the first time at Caroline Hill, when they beat the Chinese. I had heard they were an average lot, but on their form that day there was not a weak place in the team. The play of the left wing, the centre forward, centre half, backs and goalkeeper was as good as any thing military I have seen in Hong Kong. It might have been the wholehearted support of what looked to me like the whole of the Regiment in the Grand Stand, which inspired the team, but allowing for this the "Sets" or the "13th" as their supporters hailed them, played dashing football. If they can reproduce this form they should win.

So that's that! The point has never appeared so vita. till this but the fact that the Council have no power to after rules, and this one in particular was framed and discussed as far back as 1999, has not prevented people rushing to a certain sec- tion of the Press, and screaming about the ineffectiveness of the governing body of the Associa-

There are points which need attention, owing to the rapid ad- vancement of "soccer" and the great hold it now has on the sporting public.
