DUTCH "UNSINKABLE" LIFE- BOAT PICKED UP.
CREW RESCUED
New York, Yesterday. The adventurous attempt of the septuagenarian Dutch sea captain, Jacob Schattervaer, to cross the Atlantic in an "unsink- able" lifeboat, named after him- self, has ended in the steamer "Comillas" picking up Schutter- vaer, the captain and crew of two in mid-Atlantic on Monday.
Those rescued declare that they would have starved or died of thirst soon if they had not been rescued.-Reuter's Ameri- can Service,

terest was asked for furniture, piano. carpet, etc. for the wireless broadcasting stadio at the Peak.
"Very Gand Indeed"
The Colonial Secretary seld he was sure the general public would be interested to have the local broadcasting, studio- made as effec- tive as possible. Radio "fans" had informed in that the work done at the studio was very good, indeed, but it could not be really effective until the studio had been properly furnished. That was his excuse
for asking the Finance Committee to approve the vote.
Colonial Treasurer: I am inform- ed that the work done des extraor dinarily good. Shanghai people say it is very good.
Hon. Mr. Shenton: I should like to ask if it is intended to increase the radius of broadcasting locally. I am given to understand that at the present time local broadcasting does not reach Canton effectively.
"Heard in Chicage"
Director of Public Works: I am afraid I do not know what Mr. (L. H.) King (Electrical Engineer, Public Works Deputinent is doing in that direction, but the sum re- quired is for improving the studio for local broadcasting.
Hon. Mr. Shenton: I am only asking for information ひろ
to whether it is intended to make our broadcasting apparatus more powerful than it is at present. I am told that the present apparatus broadcast around the only Colony of Hong Kong, and is not sufficiently powerful to even reach Canton.

This week's "Overland China Mail" is again full of good things. Later news about the King Edward Hotel fire, the holding of the Coroner's inquest, and other developments take a prominent place. Pictures of the fire have also been included.
Much of interest has happened in China. The third national Congress of the Nationalist Party-described in one quarter as the annual general meeting of shareholders in the Republic of China, convened by the directors in session in Nanking has opened with the usual blaze of trumpets. Immediately before that was the settlement of the Hunan trouble when recurrence of civil war seemed to be impending,
As usual, all the "local" and "China"
news is published
in the "Overland." If there was anything that struck your particular notice during the last few days, get it in the "Over- land" and send it away. Others will be wanting to read it as well.
The Overland," as is commonly known. is the only illustrated weekly news budget printed in Hong Kong local views by local people. It is published for posting away to other parts of the world for those interested in China gen- erally and Hong Kong in particular.
