DUTCH "UNSINKABLE" LIFE- BOAT PICKED UP.
CREW RESCUED
New York, Yesterday. The adventurous attempt of the septuagenarian Dutch sea captain, Jacob Schattervaer, to cross the Atlantic in an "unsink- able" lifeboat, named after him- self, has ended in the steamer "Comillas" picking up Schutter- vaer, the captain and crew of two in mid-Atlantic on Monday.

"Very Gand Indeed"
The Colonial Secretary seld he was sure the general public would be interested to have the local broadcasting, studio- made as effec- tive as possible. Radio "fans" had informed in that the work done at the studio was very good, indeed, but it could not be really effective until the studio had been properly furnished. That was his excuse
for asking the Finance Committee to approve the vote.
Colonial Treasurer: I am inform- ed that the work done des extraor dinarily good. Shanghai people say it is very good.
Hon. Mr. Shenton: I should like to ask if it is intended to increase the radius of broadcasting locally. I am given to understand that at the present time local broadcasting does not reach Canton effectively.

Director of Public Works: I am afraid I do not know what Mr. (L. H.) King (Electrical Engineer, Public Works Deputinent is doing in that direction, but the sum re- quired is for improving the studio for local broadcasting.

to whether it is intended to make our broadcasting apparatus more powerful than it is at present. I am told that the present apparatus broadcast around the only Colony of Hong Kong, and is not sufficiently powerful to even reach Canton.
