Parsec Ships During the early part of the nine- teenth century, the flourishing trade between India and China was

carried on almost entirely by the

Parsees in their own ships.

The sailing ships Royal Chartel" and "Hornby," owned by Hirjee Jivanjee Readymoney, were among the first to blaze the trail for many others to come. During the early days of the British occupation of Hong Kong, the Parsees, had sev- eral vessels plying on the Eastern run, and they also had the privi- lege of carrying the Royal Mail. The "Ariel" a merchant hulk, a photograph of which appeared in the July edition of the "Hong Kong and China Publicity Monthly," was the property of Parste merchants and was used for the purpose of trade long before the British took Hong Kong.

History records that during the very first year of the occupation of Hong Kong by the British, at least four Parys gentlemen, namo ly, Heejibhoy Rustomjee, Pastenjee. Cawasjee. Framjee Jaishedive, and D. Rustomjee, prived the courage of their convictions in the future prosperity and development of the Colony by taking over some of the forty sites offered by the Govern
