SHROVETIDE COMMUNITY FOOTBALL,--The 700- years-old custom at Ashbourne, Derbyshire, on Feb. 12. The whole village took part in the game which progressed through streets, lanes and rivers, the respective goals, two water mills, being three miles apart. Combatants are seen in the river working the ball down. In some places the ice was broken to keep the game going.-(Sport and General).
