FAMOUS BEAUTY
DOWAGER COUNTESS OF DUDLEY
8 LOVELY SISTERS
Countess of The Dowager Dudley, a famous beauty of last century, died recently at Pem-1 broke Lodge, Richmond Park, aged 82.
She was the last survivor of a family of eight sisters, all of whom were noted in their day. She was Georgiana, third daugh- ter of the Scottish baronet Sir Thomas Moncreiffe.
The sisters were leaders of London society of the late 'sixties, of which Alexandra, Princess of Wales, their friend and contem- porary, was the chief. Georgiana was considered the most beautiful of the family, and indeed of all London.
Her youthful features remain recorded in Millais's "Apple Blos- soms,' 'of which she is the central figure, painted when she was 13.
Mias Moncreiffe married the Earl of Dudley when she was 19. Lord Dudley was a widower 30 years her senior, and she was left a widow in 1885
During the Boer War Lady Dudley helped wounded officers and nurses returning from South Africa, and carried on the work for nearly two years without the necessity for any appeal to the public. She was created by King Edward a Lady of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
Lady Dudley took a great inter- eat in the art of cookery, and her Dudley Book of Cookery and Household Recipes" is not only a

Lo Chung-yu, who claimed to have been an eye-witness of the al leged crime stated that he was sit ting in front of Lo Ying-wing's grocery shop on the day in question when he saw the two alleged fugl. tives enter the place. They were both armed. Witness heard Lo Ping-wing urge. Lo Tze-wang to shoot shopkeepera." Lo Tsz-wang fired a shot which struck Lo Ying- wing in the chest.
After he had been hit Lo Ying- wing attempted to run. He had gone only a few paces, however, when he was shot down from be- hind. The second bullet entered the back of his head and he col lapsed. Both fugitives then ran away. Later in the day witness took part at the general council of village elders who gathered to dell- berate over the murder.
