London, Yesterday, Playing in the Second Division of the English League to-day. West Bromwich Albion, at home, were defeated by Bradford City by two goals to one.

The British racing motorist, Major H. O. D. Segrave, attained a speed of 231.51125 miles an hour. The previous record was 207.5 held by the American, White, who is now trying to beat Major Segrave.

Countess of The Dowager Dudley, a famous beauty of last century, died recently at Pem-1 broke Lodge, Richmond Park, aged 82.
She was the last survivor of a family of eight sisters, all of whom were noted in their day. She was Georgiana, third daugh- ter of the Scottish baronet Sir Thomas Moncreiffe.
The sisters were leaders of London society of the late 'sixties, of which Alexandra, Princess of Wales, their friend and contem- porary, was the chief. Georgiana was considered the most beautiful of the family, and indeed of all London.
Her youthful features remain recorded in Millais's "Apple Blos- soms,' 'of which she is the central figure, painted when she was 13.
Mias Moncreiffe married the Earl of Dudley when she was 19. Lord Dudley was a widower 30 years her senior, and she was left a widow in 1885
During the Boer War Lady Dudley helped wounded officers and nurses returning from South Africa, and carried on the work for nearly two years without the necessity for any appeal to the public. She was created by King Edward a Lady of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
