OPENING OF SINZA BRIDGE AFTER REPAIRS.-The formal opening of the Sinza Bridge, Shanghai, which had been under thorough repair for the past four months, began with a brief ceremony by Mr. Chew Ching-chib, who represented the Com- missioner of Public Works for the Municipality of Greater Shanghai. The total cost of repairs was over Tls. 16, 000. Sinza Bridge is one of the several Chinese bridges that carry heavy traffic from the International Settlement into Chapel and vice versa. (C. H. Bunker Oil.
During this six months' parfod the average price per barrel of bunker fuel oil was 1.60 dols, and for Diesel oil 1.95 dols., and for coal the average price was 8.04 dola, per
ton.
Therefore the reduction in
fuel consumption represents a monetary saving for the six months as compared to the previous six months' period of 340,619 doła,
Attention is called to the fact that these savings have accompilah- ed on a fleet of vessels about nine years old which has shown subetan- 'tial reductions in fuel consumption for each succeeding six months' period, although It would be only reasonable to expect that there should be Increased fuel consump/ tíon in view of the increasing age of the vessels and the improvements previously effected.
